As we celebrate great women in history this month, let’s not forget about our story that includes Herstory! I would like to share my mother’s letter to her mother, Vivian Valore (Moon) Richardson.
Hey Ma!
As I reflect on your greatness and your grace, I remember many things, too numerous to recount. You were a trendsetter becoming fluent in French in the 1930s, and then you graduated high school one year ahead of schedule, you’re amazing!!! Your beauty, your sense of humor, your class and style, and even the scent of your fav, cologne l’ air du temps, were exemplary. You fiercely protected your family and kept us close and so that tradition carries on today. I was always so proud whenever you came to our PTA meetings or to parent teacher days. All I could do was grin.
Ma, you gave all seven of us a spiritual background, because you loved God and because you love us. You even got Daddy to sit in on our Bible studies and to attend meetings for a while. And only you could accomplish that!!! You helped me to raise my beautiful child, and she loves you so much. I treasure you and all of your generous support. I still have your table!!! And I cannot wait to see you again in Paradise.
Love, Your daughter – Dee!
